The legend of St George starts with a Christian Roman Soldier who rebelled against his pagan Emperor, resulting in his imprisonment and later on, his beheading!
St George is most famously known for his dragon slaying heroics. As legend has it, the town of Silene in Libya was home to a ferocious dragon whom the locals offered sheep to as a distraction to let them pass by. After a time, there were no sheep left and so the locals decided to offer a maiden Princess to the dragon. St George, dressed in his knights uniform, galloped on his white stallion to save the Princess and slay the dragon.
In 1222 April 23rd was declared St George’s Day in England and in 1348 St George was named the Patron Saint of England.
