Henry Deakin fresh from the JANY Winter show reveals all about the American market and why New York is a home away from home…
Good Afternoon Henry. So how successful was your trip to New York?
H: Orders are still coming in from the trip so it’s difficult to gage but so far we are really pleased with the results!
How do you find exhibiting at the JANY Exhibition?
H: Sadly this year was very quiet due to snow. That said it’s always good for us to show our faces and visit our New York based clients.
How is the American market compared to the UK?
H: In general the markets now are similar. The US took on using the Deakin & Francis name much earlier and very much use our heritage and brand story as a selling point.
What do you like most about traveling to America?
H: Traveling to America is a home away from home. After living in New York it’s great to head back and see old friends and have the odd beer in familiar bars! That and the steaks are pretty amazing too!
Why is it so important for D&F to exhibit in America?
H: America has always been a key market for Deakin & Francis so it’s important to keep our retailers up to date with the new designs, in store displays and services that we offer at Deakin & Francis.
Which products were popular at JANY?
H: As always the enamels made up a good number of sales but really it’s now a combination of items that are requested. Leather continues to grow. Our new walking stick with hidden button and jaw dropping design caused a stir!
Deakin & Francis will be exhibiting at Couture Las Vegas in May and JANY summer show in July.
