Hallmarking: Time running out
There is still time to make your views known on hallmarking. Hallmarking as a legal requirement is under threat.
Her Majesty’s Government is reviewing areas of law. One such area being reviewed is hallmarking. Unless there are sufficient protests, hallmarking will be withdrawn in the UK.
At present all jewellery that claims to be gold, silver, platinum or palladium in the UK must be hallmarked. If this legislation is removed, in the future you would simply take the seller’s word that the jewellery was indeed gold, silver or platinum.
